Black Friday II: The Revenge

If you don't get what you want this holiday, don't worry. You'll get a second chance.
The day after Thanksgiving has long been associated with early-morning mall getaways, long lines stacked in front of the cash register and mob scenes worthy of a Guatemalan soccer game… although they call it football down there.
But the day after Christmas ranks a close second in terms of retail activity. And being that this year’s holiday falls on a Thursday, we’re officially getting a second helping of Black Friday madness. (That means the nation’s workers of retail jobs are also getting a second helping…lucky for them.)
Of course, this second big shopping day is known less for giving than for taking. This is the day when dad exchanges his socks for golf balls. And millions of gift cards are redeemed for all those thing we really wanted, asked for and hinted at… but never got. Things like Britney Spears’ new perfume or Ashton Kutcher’s Nikon camera.
Black Friday II is a day for shoppers’ redemption. And it’s also time for a second salute to all those retail warriors and steely seasonal job employees who must now devote a full day to restocking, refolding and restacking. These part-time jobs are tough gigs this time of year.
Oh, and if you don’t have any returns to make or gift cards to redeem, don’t forget about the after-Christmas clearance sales and overstocked inventory sell-offs. Isn’t it ironic that the day after Christmas might be the best shopping day of the year?
